A micro-SaaS is a small online tool that does one job for one type of customer, for a small monthly fee. With today's AI, a small tool can read documents, understand voice notes in Hindi and write like a person. That opens up a whole new set of opportunities, especially in India, where millions of small businesses still run on notebooks, WhatsApp and memory.
Here are 15 ideas, grouped by who they help. Each one solves a problem we've seen again and again.
For shops and retailers
- WhatsApp reply assistant. Answers "Is this in stock?", "What's the price?", "Are you open?" automatically in Hindi or English, and hands tricky questions to the owner.
- Smart payment reminders. Sends polite, well-timed reminders for pending dues and EMIs, and highlights customers who are likely to pay late.
- Product post writer. Upload a product photo and price; get a description, an Instagram caption and a WhatsApp status message.
- Google review responder. Drafts replies to every review in the owner's tone. Active listings get more trust and more walk-ins.
- Dead-stock detector. Reads sales data and warns which items are turning into dead stock, with ideas to clear them (bundles, offers).
For distributors and wholesalers
- Voice-note to order. Retailers send a voice note; AI converts it into a clean written order with item names and quantities.
- Collections tracker from WhatsApp. Reads exported payment chats and builds a list of who has paid and who hasn't.
- Scheme calculator. Works out targets, slabs and incentives for each retailer automatically, with no more Excel mistakes.
For accounts and compliance
- Bill & invoice reader. Photograph a purchase bill; AI reads items, amounts and GST into your sheet or accounting software.
- Compliance due-date keeper. Tracks GST, TDS and licence renewals, and reminds both owner and accountant.
- Daily business position on WhatsApp. Every morning: cash, money to collect, money to pay. (This is the idea behind our Personal CFO.)
For clinics and service businesses
- Patient-friendly report explainer. Turns a lab report into a simple summary the patient can understand. The doctor always reviews it before it's shared.
- Appointment no-show reducer. Sends confirmations and reminders, and fills cancelled slots from a waiting list.
- Lead qualifier. Chats with website and Instagram enquiries, asks the key questions, and passes only serious leads to the team.
- Feedback analyser. Reads reviews and chats, and summarises what customers love and what annoys them.
How to test an idea before building it
The biggest mistake is building for months and then discovering nobody will pay. Do this first:
- Talk to 10 real customers. Ask how they handle the problem today and what it costs them. Don't pitch; listen.
- Make a one-page website that explains the tool and has a "Join the waiting list" button.
- Ask for a small commitment: a pre-order, or a promise to try it for a month.
- Build the smallest version that solves the core problem, and nothing more.
What makes a micro-SaaS succeed
- A painful problem: something that costs money or time every single week.
- A clear customer: "mobile retailers", not "all businesses".
- Easy to start: sign up and get value on day one.
- Priced like a no-brainer: less than the money or time it saves.
